We are embarking on a challenge tomorrow. We are going to attempt the 3 day intensive potty training system. I have read a bunch online, but have not purchased any specific programs. We are going to try our own version and see what happens.
Why am I trying this crazy idea?
1) My daughter is familiar with the potty. She uses it sometimes, but not all the time. We are starting to see a little regression in her desire to use it.
2) Getting rid of diapers would be AMAZING!
3) If this is supposed to work, your child should be 28 months or younger (or so I have read). We're almost 29 months.
4) Why not? It's worth a try.
How we're going to attempt this:
1) Three days at home. No outside trips. (I'm guessing so you don't have to worry about public restrooms or potty issues in the car.
2) No diapers unless sleeping for nap or night time.
3) We are going to use underwear when she is awake. The systems tell you to go bare-bottomed, but you have to do that for 3 months afterward. This will not really work with our daycare situation. Plus if we don't start with underwear, my daughter will probably refuse to wear them.
4) We are going to push liquids, salty snacks, and watery foods like watermelon and grapes.
5) We will watch for "potty signs" and rush her to the restroom when needed. You're supposed to have a potty in every room (really every room? who has money for that), but we're going to do our little potty seat in our living space and the potty seat in the restroom.
6) Every time our daughter goes "pee pee" in the toilet, we'll do the "potty dance." I look silly, but she LOVES it already.
7) Every time she goes "poo poo" in the toilet, she'll get the potty dance and a treat. I think she'll need the treat, because we'll have more trouble with this.
8) Day one, no outside time. Day two, and hour outside in the yard. Day three, an hour in the morning and an hour in the afternoon outside in the yard.
(we've really played up the big girl underwear and potty dance angle this week to get ready)
My hope is that she takes to this by day 2 as most of the guides say kids will. I'll keep you posted about our progress.

3 Day Intensive Potty Training
Why I am Blogging
As a first time mom, I found I had tons of advice and support when my daughter was a baby. As my daughter is firmly in her toddler years and just past the two-year mark, I have realized that I am dealing with a completely different animal--so to speak. I find myself with more questions than answers, and I think a lot of first time moms probably feel that way. I hope to set this up as a forum for people to see what is going on in my and my daughter's life and respond with feedback or questions of their own. This is definitely a learning process and one where we can support each other!
